  1. Well, I know the time is soon. It's quit playing DVD RW material. I thought it was my cheap Memorex media for the longest time. I bought a JVC DVD-RW disk today ($6) and it refuses to play that too. My PSX2 played it fine...

Mine is a paperweight too now. It gave out at Christmas or so. My CYBERHOME 300 took its palce.

My Apex 1100W is still working --- from the dark ages of DVD land nearly two years ago! But it has migrated into a nursing home (my bedroom)from its previous place of honor in my living room. Dethroned by a young buxom Gateway DVD stand-alone player/recorder

Mine still plays CD media fine. But non-commercial DVD's? Forget about it. I think the DVD read laser weakened.

Absolutely hilarious. I remember that. I didn't mean anything by it... That was almost 500 posts ago, are you stalking me?

I feel for you. I had an apex -800 that died. It was a good player while it lasted.

  10. It's official. Inserted disk will not spin up anymore. Gives "No disk" error on any disk put in it. I've had it since I got into this DVD craze almost two years ago.

Have you tried cleaning the laser objective lens? Sometimes it's just a matter of dust buildup on the lens (or smog, smoke, etc.).

Use a Q-tip and denatured alcohol or even Windex (not as good) to clean it, just wipe gently and dry with the other end of the Q-tip. You could even use compressed air to blow around inside the pickup assembly, if you're careful. Sometimes dust gets down inside onto the refraction prism and blocks the light from getting through properly.

Might as well try it, it might work. If not, nothing lost if you were gonna chuck it out anyway.

I'm very happy with my Cyberhome CH-DVD 500

You can still order them direct from the cyberhome website for a reasonable price.

Too bad, but I guess if you got a lot of use out of it, you got your money's worth. These days, these things are so cheap, I wonder how they can make them and sell at a profit. I see Cyberhome players at Sam's Club for $30.00 that will play everything except DivX, with 110/220 capability and PAL/NTSC auto conversion. Unbelievable.

On top of that, they're so small they'll fit anywhere. I hope in the next couple of years the same units will have DivX as well, and sell for those kind of price points. They're already a great deal and getting better all the time.
