Thread: AC3 Channels

Thread
  1. I am trying to assemble a DVD using TMPGenc DVD Author. I am using files that were encoded from DivX to MPEG format after extracting the AC3 streams with VirtualDub.

My problem is that some of the AC3 streams are 3-channel and others are 4 channel and TMPGenc DVD Author requires all the files on a track to be consistent.

Is there a way I can strip the extra channels from the AC3 files with 4 chanels or possibly add a blank 4th channel to the 3-chanel files so I can put them all on one DVD?

  2. You could try GoldWave for this - I know that it supports AC3 and is described as a "semi-pro" editor. Give it a shot and see how it works.

    Good luck,

The other way is to put them on seperate tracks. Saves messing with the audio.

  4. I've tried using GoldWave but every time I try to open an AC3 file with it, it crashes with an error about neroadb.dll. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing several times and can't seem to fix the problem.

In the meantime, I have used the AC3Machine front-end for BeSweet to downmix the LFE channel into the Left and Right channels for my 4-channel files so they are left with 3 channels. (L+R+C). I'm about to make my first disk with the downmixed files so I'll report back with the results.
