Thread: Cleaning dvd's

Thread
  1. This has probably already been posted, but what type of cloth/material is best to use when wipping off smudges/fingerprints?

I like to keep my dvd's spotless, but today I noticed one had alot of fingerprints over it so I decided on using a soft kleenex to clean it off, it worked okay, but I got a few scratches from it.

    Any ideas?

Glass cleaner and toliet paper, low cost, works great for me!
Don't crinckle the paper/tissue up, just wipe it off starting from the center straight to the edge, and also don't make "circles" when your cleaning the disc, that will scratch it.

  3. Stay away from kleenex or toilet paper. It can have abrasives mixed in.

Stick with a clean cotton cloth and window cleaner or eyeglass cleaner. Polycarbonate is tough stuff if you don't get organic solvents near it (lacquer thinner, gasoline, etc.). Those will melt the plastic on contact. Alcohol is OK but it streaks more than glass cleaner. Also ....rub lightly. Don't bear down or you'll get scratches.

  4. personally, I use my shirt to clean dvdr's. Aint never had a problem. Dont use a 3 year old to help you clean them, however.

Those soft clothes in hotel bathrooms are great. Also photo cloths. Really cheap, not hard to locate. Even some t-shirts are fine.
