Sorry about this silly question but since I'm new I thought I'd ask anyway.

Can I use DVD-R (or whatever format) as a medium for just backing up data such as files and folders.
I've used it for burning my videos now for a few years and view them on our home DVD player. However, I backup data such as files and folders on my CD burner and can access them via Windows explorer just fine. But since DVD has so much more capacity (apx. 4.7Gig) can I do this also with DVD?
If so what apps do I need (Nero, other)?

Thanks so much all for your help.
