    Hi all,

Having made backups of DVDs using DVD X Copy and playing them on my Cyberhome AD-L528 perfectly, I decided to burn movie files which I had downloaded.

Firstly, I encoded the XviDs to MPEG-2 and authored these files using TMPGEnc DVD Author. When I tried to play them on my standalone, the menu appeared and operated as expected. However, roughly 5minutes into the first chapter, my DVD player completely crashed! I was unable to stop the DVD or pause, and had to manually power off the player. However, when I fast forward through the film, the DVD player does not crash. I have used the same brand of media on other players and it works fine. On some players, I receive the message "BAD DISK" and am totally unable to even load the menu. The DVD plays perfectly, menus and all, on the computer.

Anyone have any suggestions/ideas? All feedback is greatly appreciated

    Thanks everyone

You're not using Nero to burn, are you? Remember that the 528 won't playback discs burnt with it!

I've actually been using the DVD writing program for most of the DVDs I've created, and I've had the same problems with that. Does anyone know of any other freeware that I could use?

    Thanks for the help

I purhcased Ulead DVD software earlier today in the hope that it would solve my DVD playback problems. However, after I had installed the software and created my first DVD with no menus and no pictures, to eliminate this problem, my DVD Player crashed yet again! I tried it on the computer using WMP and PowerDVD and it played perfectly all the way through! It also played smoothly on an Alba DVD Player, but my sister's PROline Player gave me a 'BAD DISC' error.

This is beginning to become quite frustrating, having already just lost myself £100 of my birthday money on software which is useless! If anyone has any help or suggestions, they would all be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

    Hello again!

Ok good news, I've finally cracked the problem! I know there are a number of people on the site having the same or similar problems as I have had, so I'll explain what I did. I hope it helps!

Originally, I was using the DVD writing software which was integrated into TMPGEnc Author, which gave me playback problems, including freezing and error messages on a number I had tried. I tried using Nero Burning ROM 6 to create my DVD Videos, using both the UDF and the DVD-Video options, which again gave me the same problems. However, somewhere on another forum, someone suggested using DVD Shrink to author my already authored .VOB and .IFO files which had been created using TMPGEnc Author. For some unknown reason, DVD Shrink decided to re-author these files and began to write to DVD having done so. However, during writing, I received an error message, basically informing me the DVD could not be written, but the files had been authored successfully. In a desperate, last ditch attempt to create the DVDs, I tried using the DVD-Video option in Nero. I added my authored files, created using DVD Shrink, to the VIDEO_TS folder and started burning. It wrote successfully and I (nervously!) tried it on my standalone CyberHome AD-L528. It worked ffs!

To anyone having issues when playing their DVDs on standalones, always try using different software. Some may be compatible with some players, but not others. I found that the DVDs I had been originally creating using TMPGEnc Author actually played perfectly on all computers and some DVD Players, but not others. I suggest DVD Shrink! Go try it if you haven't already, it's a life saver.

    Thanks for the help anyway
