I got a widescreen HDTV and connect the 5131 to the TV with S-Video cable. Even I selected the widescreen option in the TV Display setup menu on the 5131, it is still showing a pillar box. The DVD I tested is Gladiator in anamorphic ws format. Everything was stretched vertically. Is it because I use S-Video cable? The component out of this 5131 is not working (I found out after 2 years of usage, as I have no component input TV before).

It's supposed to be streched vertically. You're supposed to use your TV's "full" or "standard" (or whatever the manufacturer called it) mode to stretch it horizontally and correct it. And no, it has nothing to do with the s-video cable.
When I played the same DVD with Aspire Digital AD-1100, which is a progressive scan player, and connecting to the TV with component cable, the DVD was playing in wide screen mode, while my TV picture size was still setting to Natural mode. Very strange.
Most TV's automatically switch to the "wide" or "full" mode when a progressive scan or HTDV signal is being fed into them, no matter what mode your TV is currently set on.
