Using a standalone dvd recorder as an audio recorder

I just bought a Philips DVDR75 and I was wondering how I could use it as an audio recorder.

1) Can I set the recording at lower quality : 6 hours ? (should be no problem for audio ?)
2) How can I make the DVD recorder start recording with no video input (the recorder detects that there is no video signal, so recording cannot start)

All Video A/D Converters need some sync signal for converting Video from analog to digital.As Audio is a by-product (not really, but master clock is derived from video), you need at last a stabil Video Signal (use the blue screen form your VCR or soemthing similar).Such way, nothing will be wasted on Video frames (bitrate wise) and you can record your Audio.Without Video Signal, your recorder can't convert Audio.

If you have a cable or satellite provider that provides audio music channels you can record to your DVD Recorder. Set record mode to highest (6 Hour ?). Use your computer (TMPGEnc) to demux the audio to an AC3 file. Then input the AC3 file to an audio processing program like Goldwave to convert it to MP3 or WAV. The resulting output file can be written to CD. You can use your orginal DVD Recorder file to obtain song titles by inputting it to PowerDVD.
