How do I transfer my VHS tapes onto CD/DVD?

Do I need a special software to transfer my tv taped footage to DVD? Can I do it with Virtualdub or something? What type of cable might I need to use to connect my VCR to the computer? If anyone knows the answer please let me know thanks. The reason why is cos I am getting a DVD 558 recorder and I will no longer have further use of my VCR. Thanks for your time

You need a capture device, capture software, authoring software and burning software as a bare minimum. Read the "How To" section at the upper left of the screen. Then look through the "Capture Cards" section and read up on some of the features and compare. Then figure out what apps the card comes with and what you'll need to get ahold of after that.

If a DVD 558 is a standalone DVD Recorder which I assume it is. You just link your video to it and record directly to DVD . That's it. Just like linking to vcr's together for tape to tape copying.
If it is recorded TV footage you want to backup then you will have no copy protection issues.
It's an awful lot easier than doing it on your PC and there is nothing else to buy exept maybe a lead to link them together.
