problem with nero 5.5 burning vcd direct from an avi

i've downloaded the nero 5.5 upgrade and tried out the burning a vcd direct from an avi file.

at first it seems pretty good, video and audio quality is reasonable, but after the disk has been playing for 7 or 8 minutes, the picture keeps switching between a very blocky picture and a decent clear one, this cycle occurs maybe once a twice per second and carrys on until the end of the disk.

made couple of vcd's from different source avi's and both suffered from the same problem.

i've tried playing the disk in my pc and the standalone vcd player and both have the same problem.

i have thought it may be some form of problem with the nero encoding the avi, but if so why is it ok for the first few mins?

i've already tried the ntsc/pal settings and this doesn't sort it


anyone got any ideas?

i suggest to encode the avi with TMPGEnc becuase nero's encoder is very sucky and TMGEnc has many great options and a great quality encoder..u can download it at http://www.tmpgenc.com

I've found that problems like you had can often be fixed by defragmentig the drive before making the encode. It's worth a try.TEMPGEnc it's true is hard to beat!

Yeap, TMPGEnc is the best way to encode your avi files.
Actually with Nero you migth last a lot of time encoding and burning your files.
With TMPGEnc you can be 100% sure your files will work just fine,
