Offering editing / DVD transfer services to the public

I've been considering a side venture / business where I could use my expertise and hobby to offer services such as basic VHS to DVD transfers to editing and beyond in creative ways. I've got a couple questions. Is anyone here doing that sort of thing? One of my main questions is in regard to the DVD media. Of course, DVD's I produce would be put on burned DVD+/-R media. Is this acceptable (as compared to a pressed DVD you'd buy)?? When you go to a camera or video store that offers transfer services, what kind of DVD media / writing system are they using? I'm also just generally curious about hearing from others who are doing something like this. Let's discuss.

I don't deal with VHS but I do alot of freelance work with DVDs.

Nobody is going to be willing to pay the money to have a DVD pressed just for a home movie, especially since its doubtful they will need that many copies. Burnt media is the only option for this kind of service, and that means compatibility will be an issue. Just keep several high quality media brands and types on hand and always offer your customers samples before they buy so they can determine what works and what doesn't. And of course be up front. Explain to them that it might not work on their neighbors player and why there's nothing you or anyone else can do about it.
