Define "best" ..........pick one up..the lightest one?the sexiest one?

Hi,
I bought this recently ... and am very happy with it.
yamada-dvx-6600 [under £70 ... delivered]
google for reviews.
I'm interested in one of theese Standalones as well, but, Not sure if this is agaist the rules, but a modded Xbox with XBMC is wonderful for playing Divx files. If you got an Xbox, pop 50 bucks into it and you've got yourself a divx player. Sorry if this isn't an answer you were looking for, just though I'd give a suggestion

eh...but that's not what I asked is it?
Then define "standalone". If you mean something that can sit next to your TV, look like a piece of stereo equiptment and be operated by a remote, then that only has to do with packaging. A HTPC can be just as "standalone" as a Kiss player in all of these regards.
While your at it, define "Best". In my mind "Best" means highest picture quality, best functionality, largest fexibility with respect to different formats/encode options. As such, a HTPC is the "Best".
Maybe if you said "A good standalone player for $XX that I can just buy and plug in" then maybe you would get a different answer.

If you are in the Uk or Europe then get the DK Digital DVD-339. I got it for £80 and it plays everything i've tried so far. DivX, XviD (including files i've encoded with v1.0 RC3) and mpg whether its on cd-r, dvd-r/w or dvd+r/w. a bargain in my book:

Though I just bought a new DVD player that RJ1600 on the other thread looks pretty damn awesome !!!! Region Free, DivX, plays all formats, etc....
Even a fool can be wise, all he has to do is keep his mouth shut
What about the best one that plays NTSC and can be delivered to the United States? It seems to me they are all over in Europe and the UK.
On the contrary, I think they have a great future. --

My Yamada 6100 was one of the best bits of kit I have ever bought £79.99 delivered (and has the full input/ouputs on the rear).........no more TV-out pc 'hum' no more trancoding just burn avi to cd and play.....brilliant....even the kids use it......try trusting your pc or lappie to a 3 and 4 year old when you aint around!
As for a htpc....... hahahahahahahahaha.....get a Yamada....get a life.
The Kiss DVDs are great. I got a Kiss DP-450 more than a year ago (almost two years ago) and since then Kiss has been releasing newer firmwares that improved the capabilities of this DVD player far beyond the initial specifications. When I got it it could not play DivX 3.11 (only 4 and up), now it can, as well as fast forwared and backward on DivX/Xvid files. It has progressive scan for better image quality. The support is great, always that I had a problem they have responded, and everything has been fixed with newer firmwares.
It will not play OGM though, but I belive that DP1000 or 5XX can play OGM.
