  1. Is the media code on these discs the same as the ones made in Japan? (TYG01). I've been using tdk with no success, be it ritekg04 or non-riteks. Switched to Fuji made in Japan and used the same tools with success. Just wondering if made in Taiwan is reliable coz they're a lot cheaper in spindles of 25 at Staples Canada. Thanks.

Nothing is as good as Fuji-branded Taiyo Yuden discs or Taiyo Yuden discs themselves.

Generally speaking, Taiwanese-made discs are hit-and-miss quality and rarely near the quality of Taiyo Yuden.

You'll be paying less, so I suspect you'll be getting less. Try a forum search with 'Fuji' and 'Taiwan' and I think you'll get some hits on this one.

The +R Fuji discs that I have gotten have all been RICOHJPN001 media codes. Besides the TYs, these have been very god, reliable discs.

Just to make it clear only the FUJI DVD-R discs that say MADE IN JAPAN are Taiyo Yuden discs.

This also applies to FUJI packages of CD-R discs.

It is my favorite media but MAXELL is now making 4x DVD-R discs that are MADE IN JAPAN and are just as good as the Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R discs but the MAXELL discs can be found for a lot cheaper.

As far as USA retail stores go your best bet in price:

BEST BUY for the FUJI MADE IN JAPAN 4x DVD-R Taiyo Yuden discs.

WALMART for the MAXELL MADE IN JAPAN 4x DVD-R discs.

You can also get Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R discs direct from RIMA.COM for around the same price as you would pay for the MAXELL DVD discs at WALMART.

RIMA.COM also has ink-jet printable 4x DVD-R Taiyo Yuden discs although they are obviously a bit more.
