  1. I am trying to burn my first DVD but something is not right. I use TMPGenc DVD author to make the vob’s etc and Nero 6 to burn them to DVD. My DVD writer only supports the “-“ standard so I picked up few DVD-RW discs so I can erase them in case something goes wrong. The authoring and burning process seem to go without a glitch. The DVD plays just fine on both of my computers but it will not work in any of my stand alone players. Both, Sony and Harman Kardon, do not recognize the discs at all. I ordered few regular DVD-R disks just to check if the RW are causing the problem but since they did not arrive yet I can not test them. Well, if anyone has any ideas about what my problem is or what I am doing wrong I would greatly appreciate the insight.

a wild guess would be that those discs aren't compatible with your players.

Big problem with duff media, have you checkout the media compatibility, bought a pack of 25 blanks and guess what, they are blank, only good for data, shite for video.

    Buy the best
Hmmm, time to kick ass and chew bubble gum....But am all outa gum.

Try looking at the DVD Media section on this site

It has to be down to your standalone players - I use TDK discs as well (I think they are good as I have never had a problem with them and my burn ratio with them is 100% with no defects). My Pioneer 606D plays TDK-RW's without any problem at all although it has been modded (to make it multiregion and take out macrovision etc). If you are having problems with -RW's then try the standard TDK-R's they should be more compatable with your players.

    Hope this helps.

I use TDK+R and never have had a problem. +R offers better compatability in general anyways. The next generation of recordable DVD's (2 layer) are +R for increased compatability. I don't know why anyone would go with -R.

  9. maybe with ur standalone dvd player u cannot use dvd rw or dvd r's - check ur handbook. Or maybe when u made the dvd - u did it without pbc. if that is so try manually turning the pbc mode on standalone dvd player
