Capturing HDTV broadcasts.. How?

Is there a less expensive way to capture/record HDTV broadcasts than buying a DVHS recorder??

I realize that I'd have to buy a HDTV decoder/card and would need a very big hdd correct? the problem is, my home theater is situated in a separate room from my pc system.. i'm not sure how to tackle this.. Please advise. Thank you.

2. get a wireless HDTV transmitter/receiver (not all that expensive)

By the time you price out the cost of a HTPC (Home Theatre PC) along with $300 for the HDTV capture card... D-VHS starts to look price competitive.

AVSForum has an entire section dedicated to HTPC and HDTV.

Yes, you have a point.. But I'm also thinking of the price of DVHS tapes and longevity vs. storing on hdd or DVD-R. I can xfr captured HDTV content to DVD-R (with some re-encoding, no??).

After reading a bit, I also understand that some cards encrypt the content captured and some don't.
