I want to keep the menu, but remove all the extra's.
I want to choose which audio and subtitles. And finally, i want to decide the compression....

DVDShrink does it all apart from keeping the menu. (or is it possible?)

DVDShrink does all that. Just compress the extras as stills (takes 20-80 MB), doesn't take up very much space. You can do the Menu as stills as well(if it's really large).

Then spend the 17 dollars to reg menu edit, disable the button leading to the extras then process in DVDShrink.

You can't 'happen to press the extra button' by accident. You have to navigate the menu to hit it. By default the 'Play button' is highlighted.

You can't expect miracles for 'One App'. DVDShrink will do everything you asked. You didn't ask if there were a 'Few Apps' or '2 apps', you asked for one.

Of what purpose is the menu anyway without extras? Big hairy deal you can pick a chapter via a menu, it's a hell of a lot faster hit the next button on the remote.

Is there any guide explaining how to disable the buttons?

You can also disable menu options with the free version of menu edit....

You can also just replace the compressed extra's with a very small VOB file, and use the extra space for your movie.

So figure out how much space you'll gain without the extras (figuring in the size of your replacement VOB file), then add that to the movie, then after DVDShrink compresses everything, replace the VOB files that have the extras in them with a small VOB file - I'm sure you can find a small blank/empty VOB file somewhere...

I think there are guides here that go into detail about how to do this.....

CloneDVD does what you want. (The Elaborate Bytes version, not the impostor piece of turd.)

Instant Copy 8 does what you want.

Nero Recode 2 does most of what you want.

DVD Shrink does NOT do what you want, and I hate it when people claim that it does.

DVD Stripper works as well, but I haven't played with it at all.

Either/or. CloneDVD is pretty idiot-proof though.

Oh - and there's a free demo of CloneDVD. There isn't a free demo (yet) of IC8, AFAIK.

true, dvdshrink doesn't "get rid of all the extras", however, compressing them to stills and thus allowing you to do a full disc backup including menus.... well, thats pretty much close enough to what he wanted.

But sometimes compressing the extras to stills still takes up a lot of room - I just backed-up Bruce Almighty, and with all the extras compressed to stills, with no audio, it was something like 250MB of space (it may have been a little less than that, but still around that number). And 200-250MB can be a lot, especially if you want to use as little compression on the main movie as possible...

So it sounds like CloneDVD is the "easy/newbie/one-step" way of doing it.
