  3. you dont need a driver for optical media drives..

  4. As jeex pointed out there is no need for drivers. My Windows XP just recognises the drive when I first installed it. If it is not there then maybe (!) you have not connected the drive properly.

  5. Well, it recognized it, but couldn't find the driver to install it. Anyway, it works, but not as a writer, just as a dvd-rom, and it reads at X1

anyone can find me the driver? i can't find it in pioneer's website, or anywhere else on the net.

If you read what was posted to you then you realize you dont install drivers for your dvd burner, you need to install software for burning such as nero.

Have you actually tried to to burn a dvd with any software?

  11. Yes, and nero doesn't recognize it as a driver.

I don't understand the problem. Every hardware should have a driver...Why isn't there a driver for this one?

<sigh> Because the driver is already built into Windows! Your fault is NOT a driver fault so you need to look elsewhere for the cure to your problem. At the risk of being too simplistic have you checked to ensure that your master/slave setup is OK, that your connectors are OK (no bent pins, plugs not inserted properly)?

BTW just what error messages do you get?

  13. But there is always a driver to find.

Lets say if have win98, that doesn't install it automaticlly, so where can i find the win98 driveR?

Besides, there is no slave/master problem, because windows recognize the writer, but can't install it, can't find the driver...

    Check out the image..

Your dvd writer doesnt require a specific driver for that model,it uses windows generic driver for which it uses on all cd and dvd drives so the problem you have is either your burner or o/s setup is faulty or your burning software is so old it doesnt recognize your dvd device as a burner, download the newest nero and give that a try,if that dont work then you are out of luck and nothing else can be done to help you.

  15. jeez, how thick can one person be.
there is no driver for the pioneer 106,never was, never will.
install it,provided its correctly set up with the jumpers at the back being set to either master or slave, restart pc,and thats it.
what you might be missing is a motherboard driver,a more up to date one,and then the drive will probably set itself up as DMA,or ultra DMA(if available).
and make sure that the pioneer isnt set up to use PIO mode.DMA is better.
and if you still cant get it to be recognised properly, pay a decent pc store to do it for you.
or ask your mum or dad.
i always asked my mum or dad to help, especially with complicated things like scissors, and glue.!!!

    amittzor,
You can try this. Go to the Device Manager> click on the + sign at DVD+CD Drive. Your Pioneer 106 drive should be there. If there is, right click on it and choose UNINSTALL. Let Windows do the rest and restart your PC. After your PC boots up, Windows should reinstall the proper driver for you. This should take care of your problem.

amittzor You say that it wont install but then you say it only reads at 2x. Which is it? I had a problem with windows once that wouldnt let me install any hardware but it gave me an error message. Using the message and a search engine I fixed the problem. Do you get any errors or what?

i find the most common cure to any windows problem is simply reinstalling windows...
Sure, it takes an hour or two, but its much less hassle than f*cking around with an installation that refuses to acknowledge your device...
