advc 50 & general dv cam comments

Hi,
Just got a canopus ADVC-50 & am very impressed, I`m using it purely for Analogue (old 8mm camcorder tapes ) to DV conversion then to DVD ( encode with CCE 2.66, authour with Spruce-up)
Superb end result !
Anyway here`s a tip, I wanted it mounted easily accesible, i have no spare drive bays so i got hold of an old backpack parallel external cd writer, removed the drive & it fits in the case a treat, using the backpack power supply too, i now have an external unit & much cheaper than the ADVC-100.

Something i noticed when converting my old 8mm tapes is that compared to my JVC DV cam, the 8mm videos are obviously more grainy & less sharp, but suprisingly much brighter & more vivid in colour than my DV Cam ! - Some of my DV cam tapes look like it`s a cloudy dull day when it`s in fact a bright sunny day!, Videos done near the swimming pool also show the water to be too green. Anyone know why ?

Just a guess but I think it all has to do with ccd size. The older camcorders had larger ccd's like 1/3 (or really old ones had tubes). The push with new miniDV is smaller and smaller so the ccd itself is smaller ( 1/4 or 1/6) . Less light gathering.
