For Channels 2-6 I get terrible noise. Above that, some are great, some good enough.
I did some cap examples on channel 6 (the worst) and 7. They are actually a variation of the same disney commercial.
Any ideas on the cause / solution?
I also did an quick clean of the 7 example with vdub filters. Wow, I can't imagine going straight to mpeg. I lost some detail, but the jpeg compression probably improved by 30%. and here.
Edit: Sorry I had to fix the links. My host is nasty about links.

Thread: Analog Cable bad channels ...

The lower TV channels in the US are from 55Mhz to 83Mhz, corresponding to channels 2 through 6. Channels 7 through 13 are 175Mhz to 211Mhz. If your TV is working properly on these channels, then it looks like you have a problem with your tuner card or whatever you are using to select the channels for your captures.
Thanks for the Info.
My TVs do get some noise, but not as bad as the tuner card. Actually, I have an old ATI that I also checked out. I can't even get channel 6. On a quick test with my JVC HR-S3911u as a tuner on the same line as the Aver card == No problems for the JVC.
I did read that you can change the frequencies (for the cards) using the windows registry. Maybe the VCR and TVs have a wider range that is acceptable. I havn't had a chance to test.
Have you tried using a different cable to connect to the tuner card? Bad cables/connectors can cause interference Are you using a splitter? Splitters can cause the signal to degrade.
It's very possible that the problem you're having has something to do with the actual connection and not computer related.
My splitter and cables came from the cable company. They appear to be high quality. If I hook my vcr up as a tuner, using the same cables + monster s-video to the capture card, the problem is gone. Actually, my TV does still show a small amount of problem, but the VCR seems to clean things up nicely.Originally Posted by non-linear
So I am leaning towards a fine tune frequency thing. I will post results if I get a chance to test.
Thanks
