Hi to All. I need to simply capture Hi8 videos, scan them to find bad frames and spot scene changes. Then I have to delete the bad frames and cut the film into a number of clips so that these clips can be used to build menus later via another product. As far as I can see VirtualDub is the product to do this kind of simple editing. Please I need opinions from experts in this area. Is this the right product to use for this purpose? Also I have two questions concerning VirtualDub: 1. When there is an error in the edited it film the job is aborted. What should I do in such a case? 2. I need only to delete bad frames and cut the clips, I do not need any conversion. VirtualDub converts the films to AVI format. Is it possible to keep the original format after processing. Help will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

you dont HAVE to use convertion in virtualdub.
edit all you want and than just select direct stream copy for the video and the audio ,save the edited file.
    no convertion involved.

you can make simple editing using virtualdub, just try it and see if it fits your needs.
i use it myself from time to time to cut out the unwanted stuff.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE

Thanks a lot for the tip. But I am now having another problem. When I try to save the edited file I can not find the menu item to save the file in its original format. If I try one of the existing menu items such as "Save as AVI", "..old format AVI", "..segmented AVI", "...striped AVI", "...striped master..." , it comes back saying "your file format is not convinient for direct stream conversion". May be I am being distracted, but your help will be very welcome.

Click on "video" and when the drop down box appears choose "direct stream copy". Do the same with the audio then click "file" and choose "save as avi".
