can i use the dv-avi files i capture with windows movie maker to burn dvd-r that will play in a standalone player? my video card will not capture with firewire. I suspect i may need to get additional capture software since wmv will only play on computer.

  2. In your situation, I would do a couple of things:

1.) Buy a IEEE 1394 Firewire card (go ahead! they are cheap!)
2.) Never again capture with Windows Movie Maker. It can only capture at a resolution of 352x240. You want 720x480.
3.) Buy editting software like Studio 8 to capture your video/ edit/ burn your video to DVD.

No Movie Maker 2 'captures' DV which is 720x480. DV is DV, and is always 720x480 or 720x576.

  5. I guess it all depends on if he has WMM or WMM2.

  6. I have WMM not WMM2, but I can still 'capture' DV at 720x480.

As kazzer said, DV is always 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
