  1. i re-encoded using tmpgenc it took 12 hours i burned to dvd and it plays fine and audio is perfect but framerate is messed up.. it is watchable, but theres a constant little skip in the frame what setting did i mess up?

    framerate 23.9
    i did 2 pass vbr
    3:2 pulldown
    vbv buffer (automatic)

could it be if i picked the wrong source aspect ratio
i used 16:9 and it might have been 4:3
field order i used top field first

and in dvd2avi when i used that in the begining i used forced film i dont know if i was suppose to

  2. The only thing I can think of it being is that you selected "Top field first" when the movie was "Bottom field first" or visa versa, try it out on a small sample and see if it works.

The problem is that you changed the framerate through frame decimation, rather than slowing it down properly. As a result you have randomly lost a frame each second and that is why you see the skip.

To convert PAL to NTSCfilm (23.976fps-> which will be played back at 29.97fps) you simply want to slow it down, keeping all of the frames. To do this in TMPGenc you need to enable the "do not framerate conversion" filter on the advanced tab and set output framerate to 23.976fps.

Now, since you are physically slowing down the speed of the film, rather than just throwing out frames, you will also have to slow your audio playback speed as well. For this use BeSweet. In the lower left hand side you will see presets for various regional format conversions. Select the PAL->NTSCfilm option.
