    Here is Panasonic's numbering scheme:

    b = black color
    s = silver color
    h = has hard drive

  5. Worth checking out the other Panasonic models such as the DMR-E100H

    heres a write up from cnet

    The DVD-recorder arena is getting more and more crowded, and Panasonic alone has four units in its 2003 lineup. Its new flagship recorder packs a high-capacity hard drive and a platoon of advanced features into one mirrored case.

    Upside: At 120GB, the DMR-E100H's disk capacity bests that of both the Panasonic DMR-HS2 and Pioneer's 80GB DVR-810H, the E100H's prime competition. The only other DVD recorder with a 120GB drive is the $1,599 Pioneer Elite DVR-57H. The E100H can transfer files from its hard drive to DVD at up to 24X, and it can record video in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. Slots for a PCMCIA card and Secure Digital media enable easy photo and video transfer. The unit records on DVD-Rs and more-versatile (though less widely compatible) DVD-RAMs.

    Downside: The $1,199 list price ensures that only well-heeled videophiles will be able to afford an E100H. Unlike the Pioneers, this unit lacks an electronic programming guide (EPG) and an IR blaster, making automated cable- or satellite-box control impossible.

    Outlook: With its FireWire connection, big hard drive, and multiple memory-card slots, the DMR-E100H will appeal to anyone seeking the latest DVD-recording technology in one semicomplete package. People who record a lot of TV, however, will probably want a TiVo-like EPG.
