how do i upload video from my DV through 1394 port?

im trying to upload videos from my DV camera to my pc by connecting it to the firewire (1394) port on my Audigy card, nothing happens when i connect it to the port (like in USB it would just recognize a new device being plugged in). is there a way to activate the firewire port or what should i do?

if the sound card is functioning properly and your system recognizes the firewire port, then your camera would be recognized by a plug and play OS... like Windows XP.

I notice that my camera is only recognized when I have the power turned on to it. Do you have your camera turned on when you plug it in or after you plug it in?

What OS do you have? What kind of camera do you have?

I assume that you have software to capture the video with, yes? Some of the capture software out there will allow you to control most DV cameras through the software itself, but the camera has to be turned on (I have to have my Sony set to the VTR setting on the power switch).

thanks guys, it recognized it now. ill try to upload it through Adobe Premiere, does anyone know how to do this (the camera has to be in viewing mode, but do i have to rewind the tape to the beginning, does it have to be playing? or is it self explanatory?) thanks

I'm not all that familiar with Premiere, but it being a high end video product from Adobe, I imagine that you should be able to control the playback/rewind/fast forward commands from within Premiere's capture mode.

If not, then yes, you will have to rewind the tape through the controls on the camera first.
