    1) well...since SVCD is still higher quality than xVCD, you could try the VCD header trick. this sometimes works in tricking the dvd player into thinking the SVCD is a VCD and be able to actually play it. works on certain players that can't handle SVCD.

    more info here: http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?n...es&id=VcdTrick

    2) if that won't work...you have no choice but to go with xVCDs. first, look here for more info on your dvd player: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

you need to find out the max bitrate your dvd player supports for xVCD. xVCD basically takes a standard, compliant MPEG1 VCD and makes it non-standard by 1) increasing the bitrate so that it can fill up the entire CD-R(s) 2) increase the resolution 3) uses VBR, instead of that horrible CBR.

    3) good quality 2+ hr movie on 2 CD-Rs??? maybe...depends on what you consider as "good" quality. i personally can only stand SVCDs and DVD-Rs...., but you may not notice any quality difference if you have a smaller TV and/or the movie is a slow movie (i.e. no action, fast-moving scenes). this is because to fit a 2+ hour movie on 2 CD-Rs, you will need to use a bitrate of around 1.7 - 1.8 mbit/s. personally, i never encode below 2 mbit/s for SVCDs because of the decrease in quality, but again that depends on you, your TV, and the movie.
