Even though it doesn't have the certification logo on the website, I did see it on the magazine ad that I saw this thing on.

In theory, this player has it all, good compatibility, good build, nice styling, etc.

    It is $200 though...

    Anyone have this player?

  2. there are so many different types of .avi files...even different versions of divx alone is mind boggling. it's very likely that you could have a movie encoded in a version that's not supported by this player.

i guess if you bought this player and found out exactly what it supported, you could start encoding your movies in that....

ESS has been certified DIVX compatible by DIVX Networks. There should plenty of sub $100.00 players on the market by the end of the year from Apex,Daewoo,Cyberhome, etc.

  5. "DivX-certified" is quite different from "DivX compatible"...

Have a look at http://www.divx.com for more info. If you don't have a player yet, I think it would be worthwhile waiting for a truly DivX certified player. The advantage? You are ensured that DivX 3/4 AVIs are playable and you are ensured DivX 5 AVIs (encoded using the "Home Theatre" setting) are playable.

I think its time to buy my first DVD player, and to think of all the 15cent CDs I have laying around, chock full of high quality Divx files.
