i have some 60min Hi8 tapes recorded on a Sony Digital8 DV camcorder. I wondered if i could capture from the camera's DV output to Premiere and burn the whole tapes footage to a 4.7GB DVD disk but still retain the original quality on the Hi8 tape?
If this is possible, could someone give me some tips on how to achieve this? I can capture the footage ok, but what compression do i use and will this compression decrease the quality, this is what i'm worried about.
Thanks for any help,
Regards,
Jaffy

different compression ratio's you can not fit a Hi8 tape lossless to DVD.
Encoding is necessary. All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

Why not capture a sample and burn to a DVD-RW and see if it the quality you want?

yes.....the 13 gb if that is what it comes out to though I think that is a bit low......should be completely lossless and same quality as on tape.
I know dv tapes are digital so you can never have downgraded quality in transfer. I am pretty sure even though sony used there own proprietary system Hi 8 is still digital. All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

Yes it depends on you. How much you want put on your DVD.
To best is to Transfer to DV. This best medium what I think.
I use Canopus DV. Very Good. For even VCDs.
Go ahead with 13gb Story to your Real Story as it is.JUST EDIT & PLAY.................apnait.com -

I have burned 12 dvd-r from hi8 (digital, anolog) and 8mm using sony dv camcorder 2wks ago. Using sony vaio PC. I copied hole tape on to HD using Adobe premier, and burned them (dvd-r) using Sony Simple DVD Maker(it is bundled with vaio). Quality of the DVD was wonderful. As good as professional DVD's. I really liked it. When you record it onto HD it is about 13gb.
