I converted a avi fil (divx, mp3) into mpg(vcd standard, ntsc film) and burn it as a vcd format. Viewing from the PC is no problem ie. no clipped off portion! But when I play it with a vcd player, whether I toggle pal/ntsc, the bottom portion is clipped off. This was view on a toshiba 21" TV.

I tried using the same vcd player and watch it on a 24" Samsung TV. The full image is displayed. What's does the size of the TV got to do with the display? Does TV also has pal/ntsc standard?

Initially, I converted the avi-format as pal as my country use pal standard.
But the "clipped off" occured. Upon reading the instrustion on converting, I realize that it is best to convert to format based on the frame rate. As the avi frame-rate is 23.976fps, I had to encode it as ntsc film using tmpgenc!

I post at the wrong section!

  2. Search for "TV Overscan" in the forums and all will become clear.

There is ALWAYS part of the video image that is not visible on a TV screen. All video/DVD/broadcast material account for this when the content is being made.

You should allow for up to 10% on each side of your content to be potentially cropped by overscan.

    Regards.

Some TV's have more 'Overscan' than others. It is nothing to do with the size of the display, nor the way you have encoded your video, simply the make/model of the various TV's you are using. Different ones behave differently, get used to it!
