Trying again: Encrypted VOB error from non-encrypted source

Don't know what went wrong with the previous attempt!!

Typically, I capture to a DV stream directly from a digital satellite personal video recorder. I can record a clip from a show and it encodes fine into AVI using the DivX preset. However, sometimes when I record another clip from the same show and using the exact same ffmpeg settings, I can neither preview it or encode it. If I re-capture the clip from a different starting point, sometimes it works, sometimes not. In all cases, the clips play fine in Quicktime. Any ideas?

Any result with the fast DivX preset?

It encodes with fast DivX but I can't play or preview the source file.
