no video or audio on downloaded divx files.

ive recently downloaded several divx movies and they "play" in wmp , however there is no video or audio. there is a moving seek bar , but nothing comes up on screen.

i have divx 5.02 and the nimo codec installed. is there a new codec that i need ?

Do you have all codecs installed ?

Download Gspot from the tools section

Scan your file and install whatever codecs it quotes.

Don't ever never install Nimo, as it breaks more than it makes. For a prticular AVI, use GSpot to tell what codec's needed, and if you have'm or not. If not, locate, download and install the missing codec. It's a little bit of work, but pretty soon, you'll find less and less AVIs that wont play.

How do you know it's DivX? It may be XviD, or (god forbid) one of the M$ WMV MPEG4 codecs ina a AVI wrapper. GSpot and the proper codecs only, no Nimo.

I had a problem viewing DiVx files created with DiVx 4, when I had DiVx 5 installed. The audio would not play.

gspot says that there is no codec needed, but the file still won't play.

gspot also says that the file is the correct length, but it claims that the file is only 3 fps , with no audio streams.

any ideas ?

Let me get this straight, you have downloaded a film that is only 3 frames per second.

Something is definitely wrong with that file.

yeah , and it's happened a few times lately.
the file is 126 meg , was downloaded from kazaa off about 12 users, so i assumed that the file would be ok.

gspot reports it as a valid avi file , but it still wont play.

Don't tell, a recent music video or theatrical movie release? There are more and more fakes getting onto the P2P networks, often placed there by, or at least on behalf of, the movie and music studios themselves (madonna anyone?).

The filename doesn't tell you everything you know!

WMP sucks. Try one of the other DivX players, or BSPlayer. What codec did GSpot say it was? Just because you have the codec doesn't mean it will play (M$ MPEG4 codecs in an AVI wrapper won't play in WMP). Try opening and playing it in VDUB.
