Is it possible to burn an mkv file onto a blu ray disc and make it playable? Or am I on drugs again?

It depends. What video and audio formats are in the mkv file? What video and audio does your blu ray player support? Do you want to keep it as an mkv file, or if the audio and video are already blu ray compliant, would you like to make it into a blu ray video format before burning?

If your blu ray player supports playback of mkv's, and the existing specifications found in your mkv file, then you should be able to burn straight to a disc as data.

If you want blu ray structure, and the existing video and audio conform to blu ray specs, you can turn it into a blu ray video without re-encoding using Clown BD. It can also convert some non conforming audio types to AC3 for you.
