I'm downloading music video's from a torrent app called VUZE on a iMac. The file type it downloads is a .MKV file, I'd like to be able to normalise the audio then convert it to mp4 for an ipod. Currently I've been using the Quicktime player to just convert the files (which works great) but I can't normalise the audio in Quicktime.

    Any suggestions...?

Lots of choices. One of many possible ways to do this is first to extract the audio, then feed it to something like Audacity (free). Audacity will happily normalize it for you. Then re-export in whatever form you want, and then you'll be good to go.
