  1. Hi! I know very little about conversion so please forgive my ignorance. I've looked on the forums but I can't seem to find an answer(might be due to my ineptitude).

I'm using AVStoDVD to convert an MKV. When encoding the video, the progress stalls. The program doesn't freeze, it says it is working but the progress bar doesn't move at all(I've left it for hours before). Here are the settings and preferences from AVStoDVD followed by the encoding log. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've always used the HC encoder in a 2 pass configuration instead of one.

If that doesn't help, try using ffmpeg for the encoder.

  4. Hi Satoree,

have you tried to use the default AVStoDVD settings? Do you get problems too?

    I would suggest you to:

    1. Read carefully the FAQ video section of AVStoDVD Help
    2. Make sure your system can handle matroska containers properly with DirectShow approach ('Codecs'/'Build Directshow Filters Graph')
    3. Run the project with default settings
    4. Post here the COMPLETE log file

    Bye

What kind of video is inside the MKV container ? I've run across some AVC sources that sent AVStoDVD jobs into the Twilight Zone, regardless of how I fiddled with the settings. Never really found out what was causing this, either.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

  6. Downloaded MKVs can be very very strange. Every now and then, I encounter one that takes forever to process thru a DVD conversion program, and the resulting DVD conversion winds up accelerated to warp speed (two hour MKV movie plays back in two seconds after conversion). When this happens, I run the weird MKV thru a utility like MKVtools, remux it to another format/container like AVI, then load that AVI into the DVD conversion software. The problem title then converts properly in the normal amount of processing time.
