I have a DVD on my PC hard drive split into 2 ISO files each of 4.35GB. What is the easiest way of combining (and compressing?) them so that I can burn them on to a double layer DVD disc?

DVDShrink has a re-author mode that can do this. I have never done that so I can't offer personal advice, but now that you know what to use, you can look for a guide on how to do it. We may even have a guide here on this website for all I know on doing this.

    Run DVD Shrink.
'Edit' > Preferences' and select DVD-9 (default is DVD-5).
Click 'File' > Open disc image' and load the first .iso file.
Click 'Re-author' and drag 'Title1' from right to left pane.
Repeat steps for the second .iso.
Click 'Backup' and save to a folder.
    Burn using Imgburn.
