My issue is that everytime I launch these two, they shut down immediately.

maybe you double-click on youtube-dl.exe or livestreamer.exe but it's command line
you need use it in command prompt

I've run into a bit of a problem. Just moved to NZ and trying to download stuff off RTE Player, namely:

I get redirected to:
http://www.rte.ie/player/nz/show/second-captains-live-30002430/10476561/
and the following message
"Sorry. This content is not available to watch based on your current location."
No suprises there, exactly what I expected.

Figured it'd be easy to use a VPN and everything would be hunky dorey, been doing it for ages for BBC iPlayer. I've tried using TunnelBear with an Irish VPN but I get redirected to:
http://www.rte.ie/player/99/show/second-captains-live-30002430/10476561/
and the same error message.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It seems RTE's switch to Mii Solutions for stream hosting is causing issues. I'm ripping this and Livestreamer continually reports "Failed to parse fragment" errors but soldiers on anyway, which, I assume, means the final file will be rather jittery due to missing data, while YouTube DL simply stops the download upon encountering a urlopen (getaddrinfo failed) error, which means babysitting the process as I need to reissue the download command anywhere from 0.1% to a few percent later.

Annoying, to say the least.

Possibly (the download speed is dreadfully slow), however I can watch the video on RTE's site just fine, which is the strange thing.

As expected, Livestreamer's file is imperfect, however I've crossed the 60% mark in YouTube DL, so I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

I ripped the video using the youtube-dl "http://www.rte.ie/player/ie/show/the-late-late-show-68/10498592/" command, but I can only seem to open it in VLC player, and not media player. Is it in a funky format or using an odd codec? Any help would be appreciated!

RTE actually uses different f4m manifest files for different resolutions, so if you just use this link with 'best' switch, the choice will be between 512 and 1024: that first manifest file only contains links to those two. But if you take the 1024 URL from downloaded f4m to next manifest file and simply replace 1024 with 2048 in that link, you will be able to use the link to their 2048 f4m file and download 1024x576 version:

Unfortunately, I still don't know if 720p version is available for delayed LL Show episodes (already tried to substitute other bitrates). RTE usually posts music numbers on Youtube in 720p and their live stream is also 720p (I tried to download 'live' fragments, but they are available for a very short time and can't be joined due to DRM encryption).

Can anyone please help grab this show in best quality? I'm not from Ireland so getting it to even play is hard enough. I've tried Hulu, Modify Headers and a couple of browser plugins.

What does one need to do this please?
