  1. Hi,

I have a Sony BDV-E880 and it plays 2D MKV files normally. But it doesn't play any 3D MKV files that I've tested (it plays only BD 3D). Since they have the same codecs (MPEG-4 AVC, DTS), what is the difference ?

    Thanks in advance.

First, they do NOT have the same codecs.

BD3D uses MVC, which is a MULTIVIEW enhanced version of AVC. Apples and oranges.

Second, 3DMKV is only 3D when the player understands the 3D metadata. Your player may not understand that, and so doesn't show a 3D-optimized version (you didn't say what it showed...Nothing? 2D?).

However, all may not be lost...

If your player plays the file as a "2D" file, but in Side-by-side or Top/Bottom mode, you should be able to manually switch your 3DTV into one of those modes and watch in 3D.

(You DO have a 3DTV, right? If not, this is all a moot point).

  3. Hi,

I thought they had the same codecs (AVC). The 3D MKV files say it uses Codec ID: V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC .

Most of the videos it just says "Corrupt file or file format not supported" . The others, it just doesn't play.

I do have a 3DTV that can plays them, but does not support DTS (LW5700).

    I've only tested SbS videos.

    Thanks for your help.

Load the file in tsmuxer and see what the level is,if it's 5.1 then change it to 4.1 and save as ts and use mkvmerge to save it back as mkv,not sure how tsmuxer will handle 3d mkv files.

  5. I opened it with H264LevelEditor and it shows 4.1.

Might be the maximum bitrate is too high for your player, might need a firmware update.Try re-encoding the file to a lower bitrate to see if it will play.

  9. OK. I will try to do that setting the avg. birate to a lower value with handbrake.

Do you know any program to limit a maximum bit rate or a better one?
