The "Interface CRC Error Count" SMART value of a Samsung SSD has recently increased to 75.

I have seen the same reported with a Samsung HDD, but not with any non Samsung disk.

I have replaced the cable, but I am wondering if this is really what is causing the issue.

To rule out guess work access another system and rerun tests ... if results are same then the drive or its interface board are at fault.

Older drives (non ssd), the interface board can be removed , contacts cleaned, reassembled and retested before junking.

In the end you have to weigh up if it's worth repair / recovery or simply move on and by a replacement.

The two disks (SDD and HDD) that show this issue were used on different systems so I don't think it's a motherboard problem. I have replaced the cable and I will check the number of interface communication errors to see if it is increased. But is this a reason to worry about the disk or replace it under warranty?
