Sorry, but I'm not going to bother unpacking a rar file. Did you try to open the file in mediainfo? I don't recognize what you pasted there. If it was mediainfo and it can't identify it I wouldn't quite know what to say.

It may be a proprietary format.

sounds like your "receiver" is really a sat dvr if that is the case it is a format only the dvr can play.

    This is your problem.

Read this for info about PAT and PMT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream#PAT

Most likely the file has either been modified or encrypted so it will only playback on the device it was recorded on.

Mediafire does not seem to work around here. (Not the first time this has happened)

Mediainfo reports mpeg-ts but the filename says .rec. Why not try changing the filename to .mpg. You never know.

Don't you? You need to look again.

You obviously don't understand what "No PAT/PMT" means. It explains exactly why his file is not playing in VLC and why he can't do anything with it.

And the point of this statement is? You would be better served trying to learn something rather than trying to engage in some sort of childish "I was first".

Actually, you are both as bad as one another and no real help to the OP.

It is my understanding that PAT/PMT is only transmitted in the original stream and is used to identify the various programs in that stream. At the live viewing/recording point PAT/PMT is of no consequence since you can only see/record one program even though the original stream could have had several.

Now, for the OP, if a simple re-naming does not work, you could also try to demux that stream in mpegstreamclip into a simple mpg (mpeg program stream) video.

But I would also like to take a look at the video. As I said, I can not get mediafire to work. Upload it directly here as an attachment.

There was another topic on here quite recently and I was able to fix that.

I renamed the new clip to .ts as .rec means nothing to most players. As has been reported, players refuse it - MPHC says 'Can not render'.

Now TS-Doctor was the savior last time round so I sent the file for a consultation. The doc did not have the right medication and reported 'PMT invalid or missing. New PMT could not be created'

Now the clue to all of this could be in the other two files in the downloaded folder. They probably hold vital information about this 'raw' file and, as has been said, it is probably the software in the DVR which uses these. Copy protection is probably to play here as well.

I can only imagine your friend meant 'temporary files' ie those that are stored in the cache. I would ask your friend to elaborate on his success. Others here may well be interested.
