I thought application ffmegX would help me to convert a swf to an editable movie, mov or avi, but it says not to recognise the format. Anu idea how to do that?
    Thanks!

Try a newer ffmpeg frontend like Datura.

BUT not all swf can be converted that simple.

And I'm moving you to our mac section.

There are commercial apps that claim to be able to convert .SWF videos (the 'simple' scripted web animations (Shockwave Flash), not FLV-in-an-SWF-container videos), or decompile them, though I'm not sure how well they work... but, really, your best bet is probably to find an app that's able to capture the SWF (video and audio) while it's playing and save that to a new video.

I haven't really looked into video capture on OS X (I do most of my video editing on a different platform ), so I don't really have a recommendation for any specific apps. Someone else might have a recommendation, or you can also check MacUpdate or VersionTracker.
