Choppy audio on .RMVB conversion to DVD

Tried converting RMVB file to DVD with mpeg2enc. Takes very long, at the end I get a "failed" message, but a VIDEO_TS folder is produced. Burned this to DVD. The video is fine, but the audio is unacceptable.

You should have a .mpg file created somewhere. Try playing it with VLC. Does it look/sound fine?

Yes, the .mpg file plays just fine in QuickTime.

Try to use the "Author" tool with this mpg file to re-create the VIDEO_TS folder, then preview the VIDEO_TS folder with Apple DVD Player. Does it sound ok?

OK, now I figured out the problem. When playing the VIDEO_TS folder using Apple DVD Player, the audio is fine, but the video is choppy: It freezes for a short moment every second or so. So, I think the DVD player does the same, it slows down with the video and makes the sound choppy, and that made me think that something was wrong with the audio. The strange thing is that VLC plays the VIDEO_TS just fine. However, I need to be able to burn to DVD and make a disc that plays in my DVD player. Any ideas?

You may try another path like encoding the .rm file to "DivX mencoder" by using NTSC FILM framerate, check that it is not choppy, then encode the .avi to "DVD ffmpeg".
