Hello
I have old 8mm cassettes and Im not certain what format they were recorded on. The tapes show an 8 on them , not Hi8 not D8 not video8 just the 8. I think they might be standard 8mm however i dont know what format or camcorder i used ( it's long gone). My Question, if i buy a hi8 camcorder will it read all the 8mm formats? Is there a camcorder that reads all 8mm formats no matter what format was used to record them?
Thanks for any input.

You probably have standard Video8.
Most Hi8 camcorders will also play Video8.
Some of the Digital8 camcorders play all formats. Most of the early models did. As time went on (2000-2008) only the upper range played legacy analog formats. The way to know is download the manual and read the specs.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
