  1. I'm guessing my answers are in this forum in bits and pieces, but I can't find a good starting point. I have a new avermedia a180 which outputs HDTV caps in mpeg 2 format only. My burning software (Ulead dvdmoviefactory) chokes on it. So does my Tmpgenc and HDTVtoMPEG (I think that is the name, I'm not at home right now). The files play fine on the pc, but I'd like to occasionally put them on dvd to watch later (that pc is not hooked up to my tv) on the tv. Is there a guide in the making, or can somebody give me the proper procedure with some recommendations for programs? thanks for any help....

Expect major effort (CPU time) to convert HD 1080i or 720p to 480i or 480p DVD.

I convert in Vegas or HDTVtoMPeg2 but only for something special.

We need another generation of computers and hardware transcoding to make this parctical for PVR.

For now I just cap HD clips and save as data to DVDR.
For PVR, I cap the S-video (480i letterbox) output of an HD broadcast (via cablebox). The quality is still very good and the cap is DVD ready.
