Playing BDMV has atrocious audio; video is fine.

I'm trying to play a BDMV for the first time. I'm opening the folder with VLC (File, Open File). On playback the video is beautiful but the sound is one long screech of static. Any help would be appreciated.

It is probably multiplexed audio (5.1 or 7.1) not sure what plug-ins are available for mac. Maybe check the VLC website.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I went to the VLC forum for help and this was a known problem. I deleted VLC using cleanapp and downloaded VLC again and problem was solved! I've been using VLC for years but I assume the problem lays in wait until triggered.
