  1. Hi there,

I'm no video card expert, that's a fact (I'm not much of a PC gamer). I'll be building a new Media PC this winter and I was wondering if I should keep my old Radeon 9550 and transfer it to my new Media PC or sale it with my old one. The board for my new media PC will have an internal GeForce 6100 and although integrated cards aren't usually the best thing in the world, they are more powerful than they were 5 years ago.

I've tried googling a bit to find a comparative chart for these 2 video cards, but no luck. If you know more or less about these 2 video cards would mind helping me make a decision?

    Thank you

Tom's Hardware and others have the comparison charts but you will find both near the bottom in performance. The 9550 is a "Theater 200" based card and is the minimal cut on the Vista system requirements list. It can do limited MPeg2 HDTV using the analog component adapter. Teamed with a Core2 processor it is adequate for HD.

Any new card in the $30-60 range should do better than both of your options. Save up for an NVidia 7600 or better to get minimal "Purevideo" features.

Looking at this list, which one would you recommend in the under $100 price range (we have 14% sales tax in Quebec) http://www.microbytes.com/computer/ordinateur/index.php?cPath=2100003&page=1&sort=5a

Does your new motherboard have PCIe?

For $100 you should be able to find a 8600GT.

Shop Newegg. Your Canadian dollar has new buying power.

Like I mentioned above, I live in Quebec, so whatever US price you have, it's more expensive here (and that's before taxes).
