Sony Vegas crashes when building Peaks

I used to be able to add many .mp4 files to Vegas and construct a video. Now, whenever I enter more than one file, it says "building peaks" and crashes. I don't have the option to cancel building the peaks either, as the process happens quickly. Help is appreciated.

Try this: It is a long shot, but the following has proven to cure audio issues:
in menu options<preferences hit tab "audio device". There are sliders there to increase the audio buffers. Increase the buffers substantially and try out if it cures the problem. Good luck! (Found this info on the Sony forum)

This may or may not fix your problem but worth a try.
