I have an avi source with the frame size 624*272. What do members think would be the best way to encode for a widescreen tv. 4:3 or 16:9.

Assuming your AVI source has square pixels and you intend to watch it as DVD-video:

    < avisynth >

    AddBorders(8,44,8,44)
    LanczosResize(720, 576)
    < /avisynth >

then encode with 16:9 AR flag.

You have to resize file for DVD.
    PAL 720 x 576 frame size
    NTSC 720 x 480 frame size
    for wide screen 16:9 AR
