  1. I'm trying to rip the subtitles off an anime DVD so I can convert them to srt and ssa/ass subs... Problem is that the disc has all four episodes in one title. 20 chapters, 5 each for four episodes. How can I go about ripping the subs to four separate files, each starting at 0:00:00?

  2. Do you have the DVD on the hard drive already? If so, while there may be 5 chapters per episode, there might be one VOB ID per episode. If so, open the IFO for the episodes in PGCDemux, tick 'by VOB id' rather than the default 'by PGC' and check if each VOB ID corresponds to a full episode. If so, check the 'demux all subpic streams' box and demux them separately. If you're also reencoding the episodes, you might want the audio and video as well.

That will give you subs in SUP format. They can be OCR'd to SRT automatically in DVDSubEdit, or you can do an instant conversion to VobSubs (IDX/SUB) in SubtitleCreator for OCRing using something like SubRip.

Alternatively, use DVDDecrypter to get the episodes individually. Check only the chapters that correspond to the episode you want (in IFO Mode only, not the default File Mode).

  3. For whatever reason, that application is not demuxing the subtitle streams. It only does the one video and two audio streams. Log file says it doesn't even see any subs.

  4. OK, I didn't think to use DVD Decrypter to separate it into 4 separate VOB files using IFO mode. I looked at it, but it just didn't occur to me to uncheck the unnecessary chapters.

After doing that, I was able to use subrip to convert the text via OCR.
