  1. DVD burner
There have been many successes in replacing a faulty 780's burner with a PC one. Here's one example:

I found another way to replace the burner by extracting one from a lower end disc-only recorder model.

I acquired a used LG LRA-750 recently (same as the LRH-780, but with no hard drive) with an unknown disc error message whenever any disc -- recordable, commercial DVD or CD -- is loaded. I removed the 750's loader and installed it in the 780 and what do you know...the loader works fine now! One of the LRA-750's circuit boards must have gone faulty. I was able to dub titles from the hard drive to a DVD-RW disc.

The LG LRA-760 (same as LRA-750, but with memory card slots added) would probably have the same loader. Both the 750 and 760 were sold in Canada about five years ago. The part number on the burner is 6721RHN021S.

The one found in the 750 is identical to the one in the 780. Used to hook up the IDE burner to the recorder motherboard. Called the 6870R1888AA loader junction.

    LG LRA-750: part number FD124015LS
    LG LRH-780: part number FD124015LB

Both fans are made by Y.S. Tech and are rated DC12V 0.08A. I swapped the fan from the 750 into the 780. Works fine.
