There once was. It would allow you to get your movies into the computer. It would also work as a data backup device. I haven't been able to find any lately. Or at least not at a price that I thought was low enough.

  3. I've seen one (at the window of the second hand store in Sydney) but it had a price tag of $2000...

I can only image what the original price was...

  4. There are dvcam/minidv decks available which are used by video editors, dvd authoring facilities, and the like to capture and print to dvcam/minidv/dvcpro tapes. These prosumer and professional level decks support sdi, timecode, and other advanced capabilities which you would probably not require. If I was in your boat, id transfer footage from a minidv tape in your cam to your pc via a firewire connection

The miniDV drive has the advantage of being a DATA backup device too.

This is not a MiniDV drive. It uses a 40GB hard disk to store the video.

call it what ever you want - but it is a DV drive ... i.e. dv camera is connected to by firewire and this drive stores the dv avi file as it is being made (no tape required) ..

Just because you aren't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!
