  1. Now I have some mkv movies with English subtitles,
    Now I want to convert that in avi to watch on my TV,
    For that I is use format factory – subtitles is like printed (not on / off)
    So any avi converter to add subtitles (like on / off) like we use in dvd ?

    Selectable subtitles in Divx/Xvid are a feature of the player, not the video itself. So the converter doesn't matter. Normally you need the subs as an external file and it should have the same name as the video file. So if your video is named MyTVShow.avi, then your subtitles should be called MyTVShow.srt, for example. SRT subtitles work best and have the fewest problems but other formats such as SUB/IDX and others may be supported by your player.

  3. Hi jman98,
    I have some avi movies that's included switchable subtitles (i think that files are encoding with virtualdubmod because there log shows,but i can't work with that software) but like i say other software
    if they made avi file like switchable subtitles except virtualdubmod, then i try on that ...................

    Try using AVIAddXSubs to add subtitles to your AVIs, too, and see if your player will play them properly (with switchable soft-subs).

    Yeah, I used to mux .srt soft-subs into my AVIs for use with my Philips DVP-642 DVD player with VirtualDubMod, way back when. It's easier to use something like AVIAddXSubs, though, really.

    What are you using for a player? There are a limited number of choices with subtitles. The only one that works on everything is to burn them into the video. XSubs will work on DVD players that have divx support. External subtitle files the format supported varies with the player. Some players such as WD set top box you can enable or disable the subtitle stream such as .srt subtitle muxed into the video file. AviAddXSubs I would recommend going to the guide page. He has suggested settings for various players.

    You have to be sure to tell VirtualDubMod which codecs to use to compress your video - otherwise, it'll default to saving the video stream in uncompressed form, which will probably end up with a giant filesize, as you noticed.

    In the Video menu, select Compression... (probably should make sure Full processing mode is selected, too), and pick the codec you want to use to compress the video.
    For audio, pick Stream list from the Streams menu. Right-click on the audio stream(s), and select Compression... to pick the codec you want to use to compress the audio. (Again, you probably want to make sure Full processing mode (the option in the right-click menu for the audio streams, this time) is selected.)

    Did you do the same (pick a codec for compressing) for the audio stream(s)?

  13. If you're making a video from another codec:

    Code:
    Video -> Full Processing Mode
    Video -> Compression, Xvid, configure bitrate and other settings
    Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    Audio -> Compression... select audio codec and configure
    Add SRT
    File -> Save as AVI
    If you're video is already Xvid and the audio codec is acceptable:

    Code:
    Video -> Direct Stream Copy
    Add SRT
    Audio -> Direct Stream Copy
    File -> Save as AVI
