  1. In the pursuit of a personal project to capture and clean-up an old video I have purchased an ATI Theater 650 Pro card.
The tuner on the card works fine using WMC or SageTV, but when I try to capture with the VCR or TBC plugged into the S-Video jack (there is no composite jack) I get the video for a few moments and then I get heavy snow with the 'ghost' of the video moving under it. After some time the video may fade back in but then quickly out again and so forth.
The card is 1x pci-e and is in the correct slot on the motherboard.

The results are the same regardless of what program I use for capturing; primarily VirtualDub and Virtual VCR but also with SageTv I have the same results. Captured file is same as preview.

I have used 2 different VCRs, they play fine to the TV and there is no issue capturing using a Hauppauge HVR-1950, so it seems to be the ATI card. I've had it for a few weeks now but I think I can try to exchange it, however I want to see if it might be something on my end first.

    Any insights?

  2. That's what happen when the device detects Macrovision copy protection.

  3. Thanks for the response Jagabo.
That makes sense and I have to admit I did not consciously think about the Macrovision. I thought I put the TBC inline at some point but now I can't remember if I did or not.
I will make certain to do that when I get home tonight and see what happens.

    Thank you!

  4. Well, putting the TBC inline solved the issue.
Can't believe I forgot about the Macrovision
I should stop trying to do these projects at 2am.

    Thanks again.
